Unicom Graduate Management Programme
Unicom believes that in order to remain at the forefront of a challenging and
dynamic industry, continual growth and improvement is required. For
this purpose, Unicom has developed a Graduate Management Programme open to graduates
from any educational background.
The programme was implemented to fast-track a new wave of enthusiastic and energetic
managers, to drive innovation, and to bring a fresh outlook to the
company. Only by promoting excellence can Unicom develop new and exciting products
and services for our customers, whilst continuing to focus on exceptional customer
service.
Benefits of the Scheme
The Graduate Management Programme has been designed to allow the graduates to
gain an unrivalled understanding of the company. The 12-month scheme
consists of rotational placements within the various departments of Unicom, providing
you with the opportunity to show off your talents and abilities. You will be given
regular training and guidance to continually aid your development
to help you become the best manager possible.
To ensure you have comprehensive knowledge of company practices and procedures you
will be rotated between the following departments:
- New Customer Provisions
- Contract Enquiries
- Customer Services
- Technical Support
- Credit Control
- Escalations
- Regulatory Compliance
- Management Information
- Product Development, as well as many others.
By working in each department you will gain first hand experience of the inner workings
of a successful telecommunications company. You will experience the various management
styles used in each department whilst also receiving specific management training
to prepare you for your future role in the company.
Progress & Reporting
Throughout the Graduate Management Programme, you will have regular meetings to
review your development and integration within the company. During these meetings
you will be assigned a unique project for you to complete during your next rotation.
These projects will give you an opportunity to report on your findings within the
departments that you have worked in. The projects completed by previous intakes
have been of an exceptional standard and have even been presented to the Directors
of the company. They have helped to influence change within the company which as
a fast-track candidate is a major accomplishment.
There have been a wide variety of different projects that have been previously assigned.
These have included:
- Reports on Streamlining and Improving a Department
- Marketing Strategies for a New Product
- Creating a New Training Module
- Redesigning the Company Intranet
A great benefit of this aspect of the Graduate Management Programme is that it encourages
teamwork between the graduates on the scheme, both from your intake and also graduates
from previous intakes.

to develop many different aspects:
- Management Skills

FAQ
There is an initial 12 month period, structured for you to gain experience in various
departments of the company.
You will not spend time in every department of Unicom as the programme is focussed
on developing you for a management position.
Unicom are very interested in having a diverse and varied workforce. If you have
(or are expecting to receive) a 2:1 degree in any subject, then we will be interested
in hearing from you. Previous members of the GMP scheme have studied: Accountancy
& Finance; History & Philosophy; English; and Geology.
Whilst Unicom has many sales offices around the UK, the graduate programme is based
solely at our Manchester based head office.
Unicom believe in rewarding commitment and success. As well as a competitive wage
you will be included in the company Personal Incentive Bonus Scheme, a performance
related bonus paid every 3 months.
In addition to your salary and the PIBS, we also regularly run seasonal incentive
schemes which act as a competition between randomly picked teams. Previous prizes
have included Plasma TV’s, holidays, and cash rewards.
The previous graduate intakes are available for help and guidance if needed. Unicom
prides itself on developing great working relationships between employees. Supervisors,
Managers, and even Directors of the company are always available to answer any questions
and to offer assistance.
Throughout the scheme you will be asked to create reports and presentations based
on your current placement. This is done to examine your time management skills,
examine your understanding of the department you are in, and give you the chance
to air your views and suggestions about how to improve the company.
You will also work as part of a team on a group project. You will either work with,
or be pitted against, other members (past or present) of the graduate programme
on projects ranging from redesigning the company intranet, to proposing a marketing
strategy for a new product.

every month you are learning new skills and meeting new people."
